CHN Announces Climate Heritage Narratives: Youth-Led Intergenerational Dialogues for the 2021 Pre-COP26
The Climate Heritage Network invites you to Climate Heritage Narratives: Youth-Led Intergenerational Dialogues, a series of events occuring from 27 September to 4 October designed to enable intergenerational exchanges between youth, emerging professionals and experts engaged in culural heritage and climate change, with youth taking the lead.
Climate Heritage Narratives is presented as part of All4Climate – Italy 2021, a unique opportunity launched by the Italian Ministry for Ecological Transition for climate champions around the world to contribute directly to the United Nations Pre-COP26 meetings in Milan as well as November’s UN Climate Conference, COP26. All4Climate aims to foster proactive dialogue on the challenges of the climate crisis and deliver on the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
Climate change presents an enormous threat to people and their culture worldwide. At the same time, arts, culture and heritage offer immense potential to support just transitions by communities towards low carbon, climate resilient futures. This series is designed to explore how youth-led care for culture can heighten climate ambition. Through inter-generational dialogue, participants of all ages will learn from each other about the crucial intersections of culture, heritage, and climate change.
The Climate Heritage Narratives series is built around three thematic areas selected by #ClimateHeritage youth leaders to highlight the significant links between culture and heritage and climate change. The series consists of a different dialogue for each theme. Each dialogue is offerred twice (with different discussants) in order to make the series more accessible to participants around the world, for a total of six events.

**Theme 1: Sustainable Heritage Tourism (Balancing over-tourism; eco-tourism; community-led tourism; digital-tourism (in the post-pandemic context); exploring sustainable transport alternatives; green system recovery; climate justice; focus on local communities and unheard voices)

**Theme 2: Traditional Knowledge and Skills (Harnessing nature-based solutions and local resources for tackling climate change at and around heritage sites and properties; community response to disaster mitigation; traditional conservation techniques and tools; re-adaptation and reuse)

The outputs from the Climate Heritage Dialogues will be used to design a new CHN Emerging Professionals Forum to be launched at COP26. This new Forum will facilitate resource sharing, collaboration opportunities, project and training implementation among youth and emerging professionals around the world working at the intersection of culture and climate change. Through the event, potential areas for mentorship and training for the youth would also be identified, and subsequent workshops may be organized in the year ahead. As a result, a wider network of youth would be able to sign up for this network and support the follow-up activities.
