Coming soon: Culture at COP31 Platform
On behalf of the Climate Heritage Network (CHN), we are pleased to announce the launch of the Culture at COP31 Platform in preparation for the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), to be held in Antalya, Türkiye, from 9 to 20 November 2026. We are honored that Her Royal Highness Princess Dana Firas, President of the Petra National Trust and CHN Special Envoy to the COP, has agreed to serve as the Platform’s honorary chair.
COP31 is being hosted in the UNFCCC’s Western Europe and Others Group. In keeping with the CHN’s tradition of regional rotation, the Platform is being convened with the support of Europa Nostra / European Heritage Hub, in its capacity as Chair of the CHN's Europe Region. In order to assure deep connectivity to culture colleagues in the host nation, Europa Nostra has in turn asked two Türkiye-based culture NGOs, ICOMOS Türkiye and Europa Nostra Türkiye, to co-host the Platform's secretariat and they have kindly agreed.
Dr. Ege Yıldırım (ege.yildirim@climateheritage.org) has been appointed Platform Coordinator, with Ms. Eda Güçhan (eda.guchan@climateheritage.org) serving as Assistant Coordinator. Dr. Cristina Garzillo of ICLEI Europe has agreed to be the focal point for the CHN Europe region, working in collaboration with the CHN International Secretariat.
The Platform builds on CHN’s successful Culture at COP working groups first launched at COP26 in 2021. As in the past, the aim of the Platform is to coordinate and amplify the contribution of diverse culture and heritage voices throughout the COP31 process. Bringing together partners from across the culture field, from arts to heritage, the Platform aims to strengthen international collaboration, showcase innovative practices, foster knowledge exchange, and advance the recognition of culture as an essential dimension of effective and inclusive climate action.
